Some Tips on How to Maintain the Floor of Your Home

Our floors need regular and proper cleaning whatever the material is. Aside from making our homes appealing and healthier to live in, if we properly care and clean our floors, it will make our flooring last longer and more durable. Here, we have some basic and practical cleaning pointers to give our floors the care and maintenance it deserves.

First, not all floors require waxing and some may need waxing but not often. The basic key to make your floor clean and shiny is simply by sweeping and mopping it. You do not need to buy expensive cleaning solution for your mopping needs. Know that warm water is good to use for mopping your floors. Some types of flooring can also be easily cleaned with water mixed with a solution of mild soap. Laminate floors though are not recommended to be cleaned using detergents because it leaves streaks after mopping. So if you happen to mop it with soap, change your mopping solution when it begins to look dirty. This is because you will have a sticky floor and not shiny for the matter if you have cleaned with too much soap or your water is dirty. You then have to rinse the floor soonest with clean water. For ceramics flooring, avoid using scrub pads when cleaning it to avoid scratching the tiles.

Second, know that vinegar works wonder on your floorings. It makes the surface of your floor clean and shiny. Generally, vinegar is recommended to use in tile cleaning. Just add a cup of vinegar into a gallon of water to create your home solution. This method is cheap, lesser time is consumed when preparing, and you do not need to mop rinse after your mop with vinegar. However, vinegar mopping is not advisable if your tile flooring is made of stone. This is because vinegar is corrosive towards stone flooring and thus will easily damage your stone tiled floor. Just remember that vinegar and other alkaline solutions are safe to use for laminate and vinyl floors.

Third pointer is to always dust before you do your mopping. If your floor has no dust, it will be easier to mop your floor afterwards. Leaving dust and dirt on your floor will only create a messy condition on your floor when you mop and will give the floor a dirtier look or even leave scratches everywhere. Make this a habit before mopping and you will have a cleaner and shiny floor. To know more about floor cleaning, visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_water_extraction.

Fourth tip cleaning your floor is to clean the grout well. Sometimes we missed to do this because actually this is a tedious process to clean each grout. But, you can do this easier and faster by using heavy duty cleaner with a special grout brush with stiff bristles. On old and tougher grout stains, you can use a bleacher. Grout with mildew calls for a solution of chlorine bleacher mixed with water ratio. Take note though that bleachers can only be applicable to monochromatic grout with plain color.
